Green Blog

March 11th, 2008

I’ve decided that I need to take steps to make my house more efficient and less wasteful.  I’ve always had the desire to be more “green” but have let obstacles and an insane life stop me.  Last week I found a way to recycle all of our paper!  Abitibi has two dumpsters in the kids’ school parking lot and they’ll take everything paper that our limited recycling program will not.  So now I have a huge basket in our kitchen where all paper will go.  The top secret documents will still get shredded of course.  Sooooo…next it is on to our shopping bags.  I have been very frustrated with the huge amount of shopping bags we use.  In a large family, it’s difficult a difficult prospect to discontinue use of plastic bags but I’ve found some very scary statistics about what they do to our environment so I’m going to look into the cloth bag option.  It’s a pricey prospect but I’m going to see what I can find.  Wish me luck!

Anyone with any ideas on making a household full of people much more green…please chime in!  My idea is to work on one thing per week so it’s not overwhelming.
